My sigmoidoscopy

The flex sig was today, and if you don't want to hear about it you can just skip this part, but this has been what my life has been like the past seven months. When I went into yet another cdif relapse my doctor called me and talked me into getting scoped again. Obviously I was less than pleased, but went along with it anyway. So this morning I woke up after sleeping all night long (strange) and proceeded with my cleansing. I was told to take to enemas, however the box directions don't tell you how awkward this is. In the end I was only able to take half of one enema, and I told my doctor and nurses that that would just have to be good enough. Nana (not my mom, but a different Nana) came over with her grandkids to babysit Simey. I went to West Health, got checked in, made sure the nurse understood NOT to sedate me (they had it written down that I had requested sedation). I sat back there for almost an hour thinking the whole time that I could've just stayed home awhile longer if they were just going to ignore me. Finally the wheeled me into the operating room, scoped and biopsied me, listened to my doctor tell me that it didn't look like psuedomembraneous colitis (look it up). He thought it would be. I had a little inflammation towards the end, but otherwise my colon looked perfectly healthy. Ah, the mystery continues. I think I may need Dr. House pretty soon. After the flex sig, I had my post surgical chat with the doctor. he said to continue my meds, but he's probably going to send me to another specialist, or a group of scientists at Harvard... Or he'll do something else. The very second he mentioned fecal transplant (again, look it up) I just started laughing. yeah right. Which family member would like to be my donor???? hmmmmm????? hahahaha The fun ended with a trip to urgent care where they drew some blood to test for immunodeficiency (no, not HIV). I am a medical mystery, however, the good news is I'm not dying. Enough tests have been done to prove that already.

In other news. Simon is crawling everywhere! He is fascinated with the electrical cords and I am constantly chasing him. He's really good at it now, and much faster! I have to always be watching him. I've learned that when he's being quiet, he's probably being naughty. And it's true. Last time I wasn't watching him and it was quiet, I that he had tipped over a bottle of of sunquist onto the carpet, AND unscrewed the cap enough to make it leak. Thank goodness they replace the carpet after every tenant vacates. Note to self: Never have light-colored carpet around children.

House

We got our house! We ended up in a bidding war and won!

I was going to go to bed, but now I'm too excited to sleep. We will be living in Champlin. Yes, a bit farther of a drive for Greg, but we both think it's totally worth for the house and the area and school district. This house was bought as a foreclosure in February and the buyer flipped it and is now selling below market value. So, everything is new and clean and updated.

We're really excited! Apart from needing some paint and curtains and a family, there's nothing much for us to do except move in! It's really better than we hoped for. It's about 2200 square feet, four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. I'm really thankful to God for giving us the funds to buy a house and for leading us to a good home in a nice area.

We're closing July 29th. We also decided to rent through August awhile back, so now we will have a whole month to move! I think that will be less stressful, than closing and moving out all in one day.

If you'd like to see pictures, they have a virtual tour posted online. Just copy and paste, then click on the link under the picture of the house that says "supplements are available for this listing" and two links will pop up. One is for the Virtual Tour.

Co-sleeping with Simon

I think I've mentioned that Simon is teething and he keeps waking up all the time, or if he's just in a bad habit. Last night, I got so sick of getting up with him that I finally just brought him to bed with us. I had let him cry for about an hour already and he just wasn't stopping. He's fun to sleep with. He fell asleep after a few minutes, but then woke up again and started going, "ahhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhhh, AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!" This isn't crying, just him vocalizing. Then all is quiet for awhile until you hear "scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch" on the sheets and next he'll start blowing bubbles.

I gave him his pacifier and then he fell asleep for about four hours with us. This time, Greg was the one who had to sleep hanging off the edge of the bed. He asked me to move over at one point and I remember saying no. We slept until 6:15 and would have slept later, but my alarm went off and I couldn't find it for the longest time. Simon was so excited to wake up and see Mommy and Daddy. I tried to go back to sleep, but then I opened my eyes and saw Simon about half an inch away from my nose, smiling and drooling. Then sleep was hopeless, since he started crawling all over us.

Simon is very mobile now. He can get into a sitting position from his tummy, and he's mastered crawling backwards. Forward is still a little tricky and he's still kind of army crawling.

We found a house that we just loved, but when we made an offer on it we found out it had sold already. So we're looking at some more tomorrow.

Playdates and house hunting

We are busy looking for a house! I saw three that I just loved so hopefully they will stay on the market long enough for us to get an offer in on one of them.

Simon is busy getting two teeth! I thought there was just one in there, but I've had two other people tell me there are two, and now, I see the second one as well. He is crabby! We had a play date with our upstairs neighbor Wendy and her 11-month-old daughter Katalina. Simon usually likes Katalina, but this time, the second he saw her, he burst into tears. Then he snuggled against me for a really long time just staring at her. I don't know what his problem was. We had to point him the other direction, so he couldn't see her, and then he was okay, but the second she would go into his line of sight, tears and screaming. "sigh" Simon. In his defense though, she was crawling all over him, trying to hug him and kiss him, so maybe he was afraid of getting cooties. :) After about a half hour, he was fine to play with her. He wanted to touch her hair and her face. He smiled at her a little and I had hope that he was going to have fun. This lasted for about ten minutes until Katalina decided to punch him in the nose. Needless to say, that was the end of our play date since both kids started to cry.

It is interesting watching boys and girls at this age together. You could definitely tell who was the girl and who was the boy. Katalina loved our handbags and I had on an ankle bracelet that kept her entertained for a long time. Simon, sat in the grass and worked on pulling up blades of grass and rolling around, while Katalina would pull up her feet the second they touched the grass.

Simon is busy testing out his new talent - crawling. He's mostly rocking back and forth, but he does take a few little crawls once in awhile. He's also sticking his butt up in the air. I've had two people tell me that means he wants to walk, not crawl. uh-oh.

Old, New Blog

If you're someone like me, who is often plagued with insomnia, usually of no fault of my own, you spend a lot of time finding things that you though you had lost. In this case, I discovered that I actually do have a blog on blogspot, and all I needed to do was change a few things around. That said, I'm closing the doors on my myspace. If you would like information on our family, check here from now on.

We celebrated our 2nd anniversary today. A little different than last year's anniversary when we went to Lanesboro. This year, Simon decided to join in, and we stayed at home. We spent about an hour watching original footage from our honeymoon. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I don't think either of realized how entertaining it would be to watch it. Greg made the mistake of letting me do most of the filming. The camera work was a little wild, but the narration was great!l

Simon is crawling and teething! He's not very good at the crawling yet. He'll take two or three little crawls and then fall flat on his face. Then he'll start yelling for me to come and get him. As if he can't move himself. He made it halfway across the room today with a mixture of crawling rolling and scooting. He was pretty proud of himself too.

I will post some pictures soon. In the meantime, if you would like to see pics from our trip in Myrtle Beach go to gzytka.blogspot.com. That's Greg's blog. It's in Polish, but he's usually a lot better with pictures than I am.

Beginning of School

Hello!

Classes started on Monday, and surprisingly, the whole week went really well. I've been busy and tired and I even got a bit of a cold, but that's the worst of it. I teach Intermediate to maybe Pre-Advanced. I also have some conversation classes, which are by far my favorite.

I have a few classes that are challenging. One is a group of chatty teenagers maybe 13 or 14 years old. One funny thing that happened in this class. I was teaching (of course) and I noticed on of the girls write a note on a piece of paper and (in her way of being discreet) showed it to the class. I don't know how she thought I wouldn't catch that trick. I walked over to her and she giggled and hid the note. I told her to show it to me, and after a second, she did. On it was written the words, "Czy ona coś mowi po polsku?" Which means, "Does she say anything in Polish?" I looked her in the eye and said, "Don't think I don't understand you, because I can understand everything you are saying, got it?" It wasn't completely true, but I felt that she needed to believe that, so she won't pull any more tricks. She looked scared and said, "oh that's bad" and giggled. She was still a little chatterbox throughout the whole class and got the rest of the class worked up in the process. Annoying and I had to yell at them several times. Mean Teacher! :)

I also had another class on Friday, that was the exact opposite. They wouldn't talk to anybody, not even each other. I don't know what their problem was, but they nearly put me to sleep. I was trying to get them to speak and answer questions without using yes, no, or I don't know. So I asked them a question like, "Why do you want to work in England" and there was just silence in the room. They were just out of it. It was funny to watch. they would think really hard about the question for five seconds, and then it seemed like their brain flew out of their head. They were so out of it that I made them get up and walk around the room three times. They thought it was stupid and maybe it was, but it actually helped.

Oh yeah, we're nearly half-way through with our green card stuff. We just got our paper work from the embassy. Please continue to pray that we'll be able to get everything we need to them by next week, and that the processing will go smoothly
